Brief Information

The challenge was to modernize a sprawling, multi-generational bungalow, transforming it into a luxurious yet deeply comfortable family home. The brief required the preservation of the home’s original character (such as high ceilings and exposed structural beams), while introducing a contemporary design language focused on natural light, premium textures, and functional elegance. The living spaces needed to be refined and suitable for formal entertaining while maintaining a sense of daily warmth.

Rational

The core rationale was a fusion of "Rustic Luxury." We deliberately contrasted the rough, genuine character of the original architecture (the exposed, dark-stained ceiling beams) with highly refined, soft elements.Warm Palette: A sophisticated, muted palette of taupes, mochas, and deep terracotta/mauve (seen in the dramatic, full-height curtains) was used to ensure the large space felt intimate and cozy.Textural Contrast: The use of soft, curvilinear furniture (such as the rounded sectional and circular rug) was critical to break up the linear nature of the architecture and provide a welcoming feel. This was complemented by the introduction of tactile materials like shearling/sheepskin on accent seating and velvet upholstery.Lighting as Art: Statement lighting, specifically a multi-pendant linear fixture, was positioned to ground the main seating area, adding a layer of modern geometry while providing adjustable ambient illumination.
